No cash register obligation – but TSE obligation until 2023
Anyone already using an electronic cash register in Germany must observe the so-called “transition period for existing cash register systems”: This began on January 1, 2020 and ends two years later, i.e. on December 31, 2022. During this period, all electronic cash registers must be equipped with the technical security device(TSE).
Electronic cash registers that do not yet have a TSE
- and were purchased after November 25, 2010 and before January 1, 2020
- and cannot be upgraded with a TSE
- and must comply with the GoBD regulations,
must be replaced by a TSE-capable cash register by January 1, 2023.
